Blue Raven Brand Coffee - Coffee Blues

Updated: Aug 14, 2018

Call it what you will ... a bean, a berry ... Java, Mocha, Coffee, but be sure to brew it hot and serve it steaming. This raven loves her coffee blue-raven style - 2 sugars, 2 creams and perhaps a shot or two of whiskey too! LOL. Over the years I have found some great songs on coffee. I will cover the Jazzy versions in a future blog ... but now sip a few Blues, R&B and Rock examples below.

Jaybird Coleman - "COFFEE GRINDER BLUES" ... This is a variation of the song "Coffee Grindin' Blues" by Blues singer, Lucille Bogan (her song in May of 1929 in Chicago as a single for the Brunswick record label). Jaybird Coleman gives it the male perspective with parred down lyrics. For the real deal, check out Lucille's original.

* see bottom for full lyrics to this song.

Next ... Country blues guitarist Lightnin' Hopkins sings Coffee Blues

Acoustic Guitar - Mississippi John Hurt - Coffee Blues ...

the first stanza ...

"This is the 'Coffee Blues', I likes a certain brand Maxwell's House, it's good till the last drop Just like it says on the can, I used to have a girl Cookin' a good Maxwell House, she moved away Some said to Memphis and some said to Leland "

K. C. Douglas - Make Your Coffee he sings ...

"You know, I'll make your coffee, bring it to your bed Says, I'll make your coffee, honey, and bring it to your bed "

Guy Davis can sing it ... Black Coffee

Hailing from Georgia, in the USA, Delta Moon has a great sound with the double slide lead, I love that swampy bluesy rockin' feel of Black Coffee.

Folk-Rock coffee song by Bob Dylan, a classic - One More Cup Of Coffee

The English Blues-Rock band from Essex - Humble Pie has a dip into the coffee cup with the song ... Black Coffee

and lastly LoopAhead sings Morning Coffee Blues

Lyrics to Coffee Grinder Blues ... 1929

Ain't nobody, it ain't nobody Ain't nobody in town can grind a coffee like mine

I drink so much coffee, till I grind it in my sleep I drink so much coffee, I grind it in my sleep And when it get like that, you know it can't be beat

It's so doggone good that it made me bite my tongue It's so doggone good it made me bite my tongue Will keep it for my daddy, ain't gonna give nobody none

I ain't ever loved it this-a way before I ain't ever loved it this-a way before And I hope the Lord that I won't love it any more

I've got so now that I can't control my mind I've got so now that I can't control my mind I go to bed blue and I get up cryin'

It's so doggone good that it made me talk out of my head It's so doggone good it made me talk out of my head And it's better to me than any that I have ever had

Now I grind my coffee, at the 2 and 3 dollars a pound I grind my coffee, at the 2 and 3 dollars a pound And it ain't no mo' cheap like mine in town

It's so doggone good until it'll make you bite your tongue It's so doggone good that it'll make you bite your tongue And I'm a coffee grindin' mama and won't you let me grind you some?
